Office Ergonomics: How to set up your workstation
We want to help you feel more comfortable and perform more efficiently at work. Here is a ‘how to’ guide on setting up your office space to optimise good ergonomic practice through promoting correct posture.
Working an office job means sitting for long periods of time everyday, so choosing a good chair that supports you is very important and should be your first step to creating a healthy and ergonomic-friendly working environment. The perfect chair will support your lower back and your feet will be able to rest parallel on the floor. IC Corporate has a range of ergonomic chairs available which you can view here.
Your desk is one of the most important tools you will interact with on a typical work day in the office. Height is the primary factor in determining a good desk. You should be able to sit comfortably in your chair with your forearms parallel to the desk when typing or writing. A desk that is too high or two low can cause bad posture and is poorly ergonomically designed.
Your computer setup plays a crucial role in office ergonomics. To set up your computer workstation correctly:
- Position your keyboard as close to the front edge of the office desk as comfortable.
- Place the mouse mat directly beside the end of the keyboard on your preferred side.
- Position the computer screen so that the top of the screen is level with, or slightly lower than, your eyes when you are sitting upright.
- It should be at arms length away from your usual seated position.
